Election Prayer – 4

November 4, 2024

Lord, guide us to a new era of care, compassion, and community.

Help us to realize that wealth is not merit,

Oppression is not righteous, and

Inequity does not help us prosper.

Let us overcome fear, reject hate, and find the strength to pursue your ways of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.*

Guide us O Lord. Amen

* Galatians 5:22-23.

Prayer for An Election -1

October 29, 2024

Lord, as we approach this election, so move our hearts that the barriers which divide us may crumble and hatreds cease. May we as people from different cultures and different generations and with differing talents find with one another the fulfillment of our humanity. Eliminate our cruelty to those who are most vulnerable among us and strengthen our commitment to the Rule of Law and equal justice and equal opportunities for all. Amen

Elections 2022

November 6, 2022

“. . . We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act.” Daniel 9:18-19

O Lord help us to be better than we are.

Quick to forgive and slow to anger (James 1:19-21), seeking the still and quiet space where we might hear your voice.

Give us the will and wisdom to seek out truth, to turn away from those who cause deceit to prosper (Daniel 8:25),

from those who use your name and dishonor you with their actions (Matthew 15:8).

Restore in us a vision of one country, working together, towards liberty and justice for all.

Raise among us those who will lead with love and compassion and calming words,

so that we may be at peace and together find our way.

Guide us O Lord.

Amen

Guide Us Towards Peace

From the Electoral Season, Save Us

October 31, 2012

Lord as we approach this election, do not let us despair or be overtaken by fear.  Help us instead to embrace hope, and to trust in your words:  “There is surely a future hope for you and your hope will not be cut off.”  Pr. 23:18.

Do not let us be so overcome by adversity that we fail to vote or over-rely on simplistic pitches.  Do not let hypocrisy, arrogance,  mendacity, or hollow promises mislead us.  Let us fend off both cynicism and hate.  From a love of money, save us.

Give us the courage to acknowledge our circumstances are complex, and that real solutions will take sacrifice, sharing, hard work and a willingness to work with others.  Help us elect leaders who will place our common good over partisan loyalties and who will care for us all.  Fill us with compassion and direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose. Help us to trust in you and to encourage one another.

Grant us wisdom O Lord.  Amen
