Palm Sunday 2021

March 28, 2021

Today’s prayer is adapted from Ps. 5:4-12; See also Luke 19:41-44

Forgive us Lord when we fail to see the path to peace and follow those who lead with false promises.

Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their hearts are filled with destruction.

And we follow at our peril for you are not a God who takes pleasure in evil; with you the wicked cannot dwell.

The arrogant cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong.

You destroy all who tell lies.

Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, because they falsely claim your name.

Shield us Lord, and retrieve those who have gone astray. Lead us in your better way that we may avoid the fate of Jerusalem.

Amen

Hope

March 21, 2021

Thank you Lord for vaccines and sunny days; the sounds of children playing, a casual encounter with friends, flowers pushing up through the earth, a good meal.

For all these things that give us hope.

Don’t let the gun shots, the hurt that fills our hearts, the hate that spews through our media, or the uncertainty that surrounds us, take that hope away.

Help us to focus on the many signs of your presence in our world, and reach out to others in love and compassion.

Lead us forward O Lord.

Amen

Guide Us Towards Peace

March 14, 2021

O Lord, save us from

  • lies told,
  • ill-will carefully nurtured,
  • unfounded fears and suspicion,
  • unexamined anger and resentment.

Turn us around O Lord on the roads we have taken.

Encourage us in our efforts to

  • assume goodwill,
  • seek your truth,
  • share your mercy,
  • be kind to one another.

O Lord, put our feet on the path to peace and guide us forward.

Amen

God Guides Us

March 7, 2021

Today’s prayer is paraphrased from several of the Psalms (NIV).

Do not fear when evil days come, when wicked deceivers surround us. (Ps. 49:5)

For God will guide us.

He has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted; he has not hidden his face but has listened to our cry for help. (Ps. 22:24)

And God will guide us.

He will rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and the needy from those who rob them. (Ps. 35:10)

And God will guide us.

He will repay the wicked for their deeds and for their evil work; repay them for what their hands have done and bring back upon them what they deserve. (Ps. 28:4)

And God will guide us.

We can still be confident of this: We will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, for he is with us always. (Ps. 27:13)

For our God guides us.

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. (Ps. 27:14)

Amen
